Since Debbie Lau Okamura's email went out regarding anyone who has family that has been "touched by cancer" the response has been amazing. Tommy Thompson emailed and told us his mother died of leukemia in 1962. Leatrice Wright emailed and told us that Eugenie Guy died of cancer just before our 20th reunion in 1992 and that she is also a cancer survivor. Debra Dumaran told us that she lost her younger sister, her grandmother and also survived cancer TWICE! That's just a few of the many classmates that responded. Cancer has touched everyone in our class and it will be even more devastating in the years ahead. We are reaching that age point where cancer, heart disease, diabetes and strokes are going to claim more and more of us, our families and our friends.
Debbie and Sue Peterson have been collecting this information to help promote the first RELAY FOR LIFE at the Kapalama Campus on August 23-24th. It will be a fantastic event with hundreds of people, entertainment, food and the great comraderie of our Kamehameha ohana. I'm posting up this picture of Cookie Parker and Holly Nishimura (and Peter Gonsalves and Milton Burgess), taken in 2004, to remind us of two good reasons why we need to support this event. Aloha, Benny
